Memorial Crypt placed in the Alley of the Greats on the New Cemetery was built in 1931 according to the project of Russian architect and sculptor Roman Nikolaevic Verkhovsky. In the memorial crypt over 3500 known and around 1000 unknown Belgrade defenders, whose remains were transferred from other places after the memorial crypt was built, were buried. Since 1931, the memorial crypt was rarely open to public.
Repairs, hydro-insulation (waterproofing) and restoration-conservation works began in September 2003 and were finished in October 2005:
- Cleaning and washing stone parts of the monument with the detergents ECO RECEPT 01, ECO RECEPT 02
and water under pressure up to 120bar; - Cleaning the joints between stone blocks;
- Repair of damaged stone parts and the stone which crumbled;
- Consolidation - strengthening the stone by using the product ECO CONSOLID K;
- Restoration of stone, making new joints;
- Waterproofing the top of the monument - applying the product SILOBIT;
- Removing the old terrazzo and the layer of worn out hydro insulation from the concrete roof of the ossuary;
- Repair of damage on the concrete roof;
- Waterproofing the concrete roof by applying the product SILOBIT;
- Making new terrazzo;
- Dismantling "Schneider-Canet" cannon from the monument, cleaning and washing with the detergent
ECO RECEPT 04 and water under pressure; - Repair of damage on the cannon;
- Restoration of the cannon;
- Protection - conservation of the cannon by applying the product ECO IMPREGNIR M and mounting on the monument;
- Cleaning and washing the sculptures of soldier and the eagle with the detergent ECO RECEPT 04 and water under pressure;
- Repair of damage on the soldier sculpture;
- Conservation of the sculptures of soldier and the eagle by applying the product ECO IMPREGNIR M;
- Removing damaged artificial stone from the outer walls of the ossuary;
- Repair of damage on the outer walls;
- Making new bush hammered artificial stone;
- Removing metal cases with posthumous remains of heroes from the ossuary;
- Conservation of stone by applying the products ECO IMPREGNIR K and ECO IMPREGNIR MK;
- Conservation of terrazzo by applying the products ECO IMPREGNIR K and ECO IMPREGNIR S;
- Conservation of artificial stone by applying the products ECO IMPREGNIR K and ECO IMPREGNIR S.
